SUMMARY OF -THE THEME, THE INSPIRATION, & THE SYNOPSIS:
A multi-generational epic exploring LIFE, DEATH & THE HUMAN CONDITION. The movie explores the dynamic and subtleties of interactions across race, class, and cultures. The multi-layered story’s ultimate connecting tissue is the concept of undeniable love and the sometimes inspiring and timely reaffirmation of enduring hope in our essential humanity, notwithstanding the occasional intrusion of sheer ignorance, personal corruption, moral decadence, short-sighted greed, myopic cleavages to stale servings of cultural homogeneity- including our palpable, even if defiant fear of DEATH.
KISSING COUSINS – VOLUME 1
The epic begins with a couple of very fraught love stories defying race and class with its genesis dating back to the social realities of late 1950S AMERICANA, further underscoring how love somehow finds a way, despite the artificial fences erected by individuals, families and other social constructs.
The script leans into the uncomfortable, yet hopeful possibilities implicit in the promise of eventual inclusion in America’s melting pot. So, the movie opens with a topical, eminently relatable, yet entertaining and life affirming premise. JOSH and CECILIA eventually fell in love. It is notable only because these are the respective offsprings of two strong-willed and seemingly unneighborly fathers who were both war heroes. Yet their fathers couldn’t be more at odds on account of their respective temperament and sense of injury held against the other, including their financial, racial, cultural, and educational circumstances. Yet, defiantly, love found a way to the utter consternation of their respective fathers!
LOST INNOCENCE & THE GENESIS OF YELLOW PEPPER – VOLUME 2
Despite the unlikely beginning, the union endures long enough to produce a grandson named Austin. Austin Words-Worthy is a major protagonist in this epic. He grows to become an instinctively heroic bi-racial boy, beloved by his parents (JOSH, who happens to be white, and CECILIA, a biracial black woman).
Ironically, growing up, Austin experiences and has to deal with racial insults from schoolmates who happen to be BLACK. He learns to stand up to bullies, and later struggles to cope with heartbreaking tragedies, guilt, and debilitating fear of heights and air travel- all before his 10th birthday.
At the instigation of his dominant multi-millionaire maternal grandfather, Austin has to rely on an unsafe, and poorly regulated public transportation system to commute from out of state as a form of supplementary punishment for his boarding school misconduct. Consequently, Austin must fight for his life after the public transportation involved ends in an almost predictable gruesome accident. Fracturing his skull, shattering his left hip and breaking his femur, his tibia and fibular, rendering Austin comatose. His life, and his seemingly rosy future on easy streets as the heir-apparent to his maternal grandfather’s multimillion-dollar fortune hangs ominously in the balance.
KARMA & THE CONFLICTED SCAVENGERS – VOLUME 3
The section of the script was inspired by a desire to explore the sometimes predictable and the occasional boomerang effects of the many routine actions, decisions and omissions in our daily lives. Austin’s loving family, especially his maternal grandfather, must confront the prospect of his own grandson being fatally victimized by the cumulative effects of the many corners he and his family have cut over the years in an obtuse disregard for the potential consequences on others.
Audiences will be drawn in by the victimhood of a multi-millionaire’s grandson in such horrid and totally avoidable turn of events. A youngster who is not your typical unconnected victim. A story reveals aspects of our collective humanity and the occasional vulnerability of the other half in society.
Even the metaphorical social dregs and common scum represented by the accident scene scavengers get a balanced treatment by showing them play the critical role in the potentially timely rescue of the anonymous dying accident victim.
The tragedies suffered by the various protagonists and antagonists are relatable. The dramatic turns are life-affirming and memorable. The story is original because it’s partly inspired by some true events. The tense and foreboding thrill ride and the ironic twists and turns are utterly entertaining.
THE TWISTS & THE TURNS- DANCE, MONA-LISA…DANCE – VOLUME 4
This section of the story offers an inspired reflection on the universal topic of death and its inevitability; on grieving; on family love; on human pathologies-even by the rich and powerful. No doubt, these are weighty subjects. But they’re tempered by the story’s intermittent comedic interludes. The subtle, the dramatic and the outright hilarious thrust and parry, especially between a grieving and already wound-up Austin, a precocious little girl, and her fan-girl mother offer the perfect final release for the hopefully appreciative movie audience.
Strategically, audiences are hit flush in the face early with some of the weighty issues about THE HUMAN CONDITION but will leave the movie theatre smiling as they reflect more on the comedic dimensions of THE VARIOUS INTERACTIONS THROUGHOUT THE MOVIE, including Austin’s fear of flying, and how the precocious little girl interjected herself to the delight and utter enjoyment of the audience.
IN SUMMARY, this feature films are ultimately about the cycle of life. The dynamic Legacy of living. So fragile, yet, sometimes, somehow finds a way to endure, with love and loss, with calamity and hilarity, from one generation to “ANOTHER ONE”
